Step 7: Get a TFN & Apply for Tax Concessions

Why You Need a TFN and Tax Concessions

Even though charities don’t usually pay tax, you need a TFN (Tax File Number) to interact with the ATO. You can also apply for tax concessions like:

  • ✅ Income Tax Exemption
  • ✅ GST Concessions
  • ✅ Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) Rebate
  • ✅ Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status (if eligible)

How to Apply

You can apply for your TFN and tax concessions at the same time as your ACNC registration. The ACNC will pass your details to the ATO.

If you missed this step during ACNC registration, you can apply directly through the ATO’s website: ato.gov.au → Tax Concessions
