Overview

Once you have your ABN and have chosen your structure, it's time to apply for registration with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

Why Register?

  • Access tax concessions like DGR and FBT exemptions
  • Be eligible for some grants and funding sources
  • Show transparency to supporters and funders
  • Operate legally as a charity in Australia

What You Need

  • Your group’s purpose (what you do and why)
  • A constitution or governing document
  • Details of your responsible people (committee or board)
  • Your ABN

Steps to Apply

  1. Go to the ACNC website
  2. Create an account
  3. Complete the registration application
  4. Upload your constitution and details
  5. Wait for assessment (can take 1–3 weeks)
