Why You Need a Constitution

A constitution is your organisation’s legal rulebook. It tells everyone:

• What your purpose is
• How decisions are made
• Who can join or leave
• How money is handled and who is in charge

To register as a charity, your constitution must meet ACNC’s standards.

You can use a free template or generator to help write your constitution. We recommend starting with the Justice Connect Constitution Tool — it’s free and helps you meet charity law requirements in plain language.
