The Communication Confidence Starter Hub gives simple, ready-to-use materials so people who use pictures, AAC or other alternative methods can say what they need and get help with phone or online services. The pack includes plain language guides, AAC picture cards, and a support-worker flowchart.

Why this toolkit?

It’s trauma-informed, access-first and designed so a person can point to pictures instead of relying on spoken phone calls. Everything is available in downloadable PDFs, and we can post printed, laminated cards for people who can’t download.

How to use these materials

  1. Full Guide: Read the simple steps and sample scripts so support staff know what to say and do.
  2. AAC Cards: Print and laminate the 6 cards. Keep one in your wallet and one by the phone.
  3. Flowchart: Put the flowchart where support workers can see it during calls to follow respectful steps.

Tip: Use the cards during a phone call — the person points while their supporter speaks for them.
